Youth In Focus was the inspiration of three recent college graduates, Jonathan
London, Nancy Erbstein, and Kristen Zimmerman.
In 1989, the trio initiated youth-led research projects with Tibetan refugees
in India and Nepal as The Intercultural Oral History Project (a project
of Cultural Survival). In 1993, the Intercultural Oral History Project became
"Community LORE", a project of San Francisco's Tides Center, and
Jonathan, Nancy and Kristen began to adapt the youth-led research model
for youth, organizations and communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2000, "Community LORE" became Youth In Focus.
In 2003, Youth in Focus became an independent non-profit organization.
