Elyna Montoya Cespedes
Elyna is currently the Internship Program Coordinator at Sacramento New Technology High School, the urban flagship school of the New Technology Foundation. Elyna provides career and college counseling as well as places students in an internship in a career of inetrest. Elyna has extensive experience working with community-based organizations as well as institutional players, such as schools and school districts. In the area of youth-led action research, evaluation and planning, Elyna brings a refined knowledge of community context and the role of youth in generating systemic changes at both local and state levels. Born and raised in Sacramento County, Elyna graduated from UC Davis with a B.A. in Chicana/o Studies and Community and Regional Development. The U.C. Davis Department of Chicana/o Studies awarded her the 2003 Outstanding Community Service Award.
Tom Malarkey
Tom works for BayCES supporting the development of new small schools in the Oakland Unified School District. He specializes in equity-centered action research, organizational change, and building leadership and alliances across roles and difference. He is completing his doctorate through the UC Berkeley School of Education. Formerly, he directed Summerbridge San Francisco and was Senior Program Officer with Summerbridge National. He has a Masters Degree in International Development Education from Stanford.
